Banana Loading Docks near Apartadó

I found these docks in 2002 when I was teaching English in Urabá on the weekends. Urabá is a low-lying region near Panama that produces huge amounts of bananas for the export market.

This is one of my favorite pictures on the blog here. Is the thinner boat intentionally banana shaped for aesthetic reasons, or is that the best design for the boat?… Or am I thinking of bananas when I look at it causing the association?
